Top 15 Miami Restaurants of 2019: Palette Awards

The talent making up our Miami culinary scene continues to unapologetically redefine itself, cement its roots, and come out swinging. When compared to other cities, it’s obvious our food and beverage programs are newer and growing. Still, as they dance to the beat of their own drum, it’s hard to ignore the current rhythm and vibe output.

Llegó la Navidad at La Placita Miami

I woke up this morning shimmying around the house while humming songs I’d never heard of until last night. Why? Well, I attended La Placita’s first Christmas festival: ¡La Parranda! This was chef Jose Mendin’s fifth event in Miami (the others took place as SOBE’s Pubbelly) and probably the liveliest one I’ve been to. Side note: I’ve attended them all #truestory. Read more…

Habitat by José Mendín

I waited for the dust to settle before visiting the new Habitat by José Mendín. The space, formerly occupied by Chef Tom Colicchio’s Beachcraft, seemed untouched. And that’s a good thing. The interiors, in sandy neutrals and beachy woods, remain as stunning as ever. Now, I”m hopeful this new venture by the Food Comma Hospitality Group (Pubbelly Noodle Bar, Pubbelly Sushi, Baja Bao, PB Ysla, and PB Burger) can survive our temperamental dining scene. This is Miami, after all, restaurant revolving-door capital. Seaspice: Miami AF

It’s been four years since I first visited Seaspice (then Seasalt and Pepper) when they first opened in the winter of 2013. Given South Florida’s random culinary rules and often flighty patrons, it’s an impressive achievement for them to be still standing and enjoying great success. Cruising that long on the Miami dining horizon takes vision, […]

THREE WYNWOOD

Hidden within the Wynwood Arcade complex, and surrounded by an area saturated with art, inquisitive visitors, and a touch of free-spirited chaos, this new empire sits quietly. . . and regally. The restaurant, edgy rooftop outdoor-lounge, and upcoming cooking school make up an ambitious and exciting trilogy by one of our very own: Floridian, New World Cuisine founding father, author, and chef-in-the-know Norman Van Aken.

Top Ten Restaurants 2017

Choosing just ten restaurants for this list was almost an impossible task. How do I leave this one out? And that other one? Maybe I should make the list longer? What to do? But, what an outstanding problem to have. More importantly, what an outstanding year! If I listed it here, then it means the […]

BLT Steak Miami

Given its 13 worldwide locations, I love the comfort of knowing that when traveling, I can probably find a BLT Steak restaurant nearby. Often, I just want a tried and true classic I can trust in delivering a seamless experience. After a seven-year run on Ocean Drive, the original BLT closed in May 2016. Now, we […]
