Let’s Talk Food!

I recently visited the 88.9 WDNA Radio studios in Miami to sit with journalist Linda Gassenheimer of Food, News, and Views and discuss the South Florida dining scene and the recent unveiling of my Top 15 Miami Restaurants Palette Awards.  Who made the list? How do I choose which restaurants to include? What happens when a chef leaves […]

Q&A with Chef Alex Lotero

Confession: I’m typically not into restaurant collaboration dinners, although I often find myself attending this one and that one. Most seem to overpromise and underdeliver. Naturally, I’ve become skeptical of them all. It makes total sense, of course, that I then surprised myself by booking one midweek, at a place I’d never been, featuring a chef I’d never heard of nor met. And I loved it. The courses were executed with the utmost precision, and delivered surprising flavor profiles unlike any I’ve found in Miami. Color me impressed.

Top 30 Bites: Miami 2019

Scroll at your own risk. Serious Miami foodporn ahead.

How to even begin to choose only 30 bites from the many dishes I had throughout the year? I love that it wasn’t easy, and that each photo brought back memories of each one. This means Miami continued making this exercise tough on me by once again upping the game. I researched, chose, changed my mind, chose again, and finally committed to a solid 30.

Kilgore Culinary Knockout: Kaido, Ama, & Ember

I can’t think of a chef I’ve mentioned more on this blog than Bradley Kilgore. There’s a good reason for that. It’s impossible to talk about Miami’s current culinary sweet spot without mentioning his name. The mile-long list of accolades continues to mount as South Florida sits royally reaping the benefits of his class-act empire. His newest ventures follow the established Alter and Brava, and leave no stone unturned. From intricate interior design execution to, more importantly, bites of a lifetime, every restaurant exists at turnkey status.

Llegó la Navidad at La Placita Miami

I woke up this morning shimmying around the house while humming songs I’d never heard of until last night. Why? Well, I attended La Placita’s first Christmas festival: ¡La Parranda! This was chef Jose Mendin’s fifth event in Miami (the others took place as SOBE’s Pubbelly) and probably the liveliest one I’ve been to. Side note: I’ve attended them all #truestory. Read more…

Seaspice: Miami AF

It’s been four years since I first visited Seaspice (then Seasalt and Pepper) when they first opened in the winter of 2013. Given South Florida’s random culinary rules and often flighty patrons, it’s an impressive achievement for them to be still standing and enjoying great success. Cruising that long on the Miami dining horizon takes vision, […]

La Petite Maison: La Grande Déception

June 2022 UPDATE: I finally went back to LPM and had a completely different experience. The dining room layout, and hospitality has significantly improved. Menu standouts, such as the escargot and warm prawns will keep me going back. The gate-keeper manager was no longer there thankfully. Also, the restaurant wants to be addressed as LPM […]
