Kilgore Culinary Knockout: Kaido, Ama, & Ember

I can’t think of a chef I’ve mentioned more on this blog than Bradley Kilgore. There’s a good reason for that. It’s impossible to talk about Miami’s current culinary sweet spot without mentioning his name. The mile-long list of accolades continues to mount as South Florida sits royally reaping the benefits of his class-act empire. His newest ventures follow the established Alter and Brava, and leave no stone unturned. From intricate interior design execution to, more importantly, bites of a lifetime, every restaurant exists at turnkey status.

Kaido

Set within the stylish revival of Miami’s Design District, Kaido easily earns its “Paradise” Plaza name. The interior design with its lush fabrics, high gloss, and shimmery surfaces, plus enough details to discover a new corner with every visit, evokes a feeling of mystery and sophistication. A fixture with 1200 exposed knives lingers dead-center above the bar and demands immediate attention. In stark contrast to Alter’s unapologetic exposed concrete and graffiti vibe, this chic Japanese-inspired cocktail lounge stunner raises the bar with…

Michelin-Starred Restaurants in Miami

Hear this well: As of May 2018, Miami still does not have a Michelin Guide. A restaurant cannot have a Michelin star, or two, or three without a guide to award them.

AMA at Kaido

Hiding out behind a secret-passage door, Kaido houses Ama: a speakeasy reservation-only “omakase” spot. Named after and inspired by Japanese pearl divers of the ’60s, diners can expect one of Miami’s most ambitious chef’s tasting (AMA-kase) menus featuring…

Brava

Armed with tickets for Adele‘s premiere Miami concert, our party of four chose Brava for a perfect pre-show dinner . Hello, a no-brainer, really. Arriving just a couple of minutes before our 6:00pm reservation, I checked in with the hostess. From the nearby doors, I could hear the jazzy sounds of piano keys coming off the speakers […]

Llegó la Navidad at La Placita Miami

I woke up this morning shimmying around the house while humming songs I’d never heard of until last night. Why? Well, I attended La Placita’s first Christmas festival: ¡La Parranda! This was chef Jose Mendin’s fifth event in Miami (the others took place as SOBE’s Pubbelly) and probably the liveliest one I’ve been to. Side note: I’ve attended them all #truestory. Read more…
